Kitware Job Posting: Open-Source Developers for Digital Libraries, Bioinformatics, and Information Visualization

Kitware, Inc. (http://www.kitware.com) is actively seeking talented C++ and Web developers for our open-source applications and libraries. Our projects span the fields of digital libraries, informatics, computer vision, visualization, medical imaging, and scientific computing. The common core to our projects is a highly successful set of software engineering tools and practices, which we continue to extend and refine.

We are particularly interested in hiring BS and MS graduates with expertise in digital library technologies, bioinformatics, and information visualization for our office in Carrboro, NC. These hires would work on our digital library project called MIDAS (http://www.kitware.com/products/midas.html) and our information visualization toolkit called TITAN (https://www.kitware.com/InfovisWiki). MIDAS integrates multimedia server technology with Kitware’s open-source data analysis and visualization clients, e.g., TITAN. MIDAS and TITAN are being used to host data, images, and publications for the National Library of Medicine, for numerous journals of the Optical Society of America, and for research groups at Harvard and Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and for many international workshops and conferences.

Kitware provides diverse opportunities for its team members to apply and enhance their skills with C++, PHP, Python, OpenGL, Qt, MySQL, DICOM, GPU programming, distributed processing, web services, image analysis, and/or digital library development and management. Our work has fostered a variety of highly-successful, open-source projects such as MIDAS, VTK, ITK, TITAN, CMake, ParaView, BatchMake, and Slicer. Our work benefits thousands of programmers, in a multitude of disciplines. High quality software engineering skills, tools, and practices make that broad and lasting impact possible.

Kitware team members enjoy our small-company environment, flexible work assignments, and high levels of independence and responsibility. Our comprehensive benefits package includes flexible working hours, six weeks paid time off, a computer hardware budget, 401(k) savings, medical insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, flexible spending account, life insurance, short- and long-term disability insurance, visa processing, a generous compensation plan (that compensates for all hours worked, not just the first 40 hours), bonuses, and free drinks and snacks.

The informatics and digital library experts would be hired into our North Carolina office, located in downtown Carrboro, within one mile of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

If you have a passion for programming and are interested in working at Kitware, please email your cover letter and resume to jobs@kitware.com for immediate consideration.
