Objective:
CARS 2010 conference.
The emergence of increasingly sophisticated mathematical models, image analysis and visualization tools that have followed the rapid development of new medical imaging technologies has led to a better understanding of organ functions in human health and disease.
Over the past six years, the National Alliance for Medical Image Computing (NA-MIC), one of the seven National Centers for Biomedical Computing (NCBC), part of the NIH Roadmap for medical research, has focused its efforts on the conversion of the latest advances from the biomedical imaging community into open-source tools and on the dissemination of these tools to the clinical and scientific communities.
The objective of this 2-hour workshop is to provide the members of the CARS community with a practical experience of the image processing and 3D visualization capabilities of the NA-MIC open-source tools for image-guided therapy research. The workshop is intended for clinicians and engineers.
Logistics:
- Date: Saturday June 26, 2010
- Time: 10:30 am –12:30 pm
- Location: University Medical Center , Room 1
Rue Michel Servet 1 Geneva, Swizterland
Training Faculty
- Gabor Fichtinger, Ph.D., Queen’s University, Kingston, Ontario, Canada
- Andras Lasso, MSc,Queen’s University, Kingston, Ontario, Canada
- Sonia Pujol, Ph.D., Surgical Planning Laboratory, Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA, USA
Tentative Agenda
- 10:30 am -10:45 am: Overview of NA-MIC (15 min)(Sonia Pujol)
- 10:45 am - 11:00 am: Image-guided needle-based percutaneous interventions (15 min) (Andras Lasso)

Preparation for the Workshop
The workshop combines oral presentations and instructor-led hands-on sessions with the participants working on their own laptop computers. A technical training staff will be providing one-to-one assistance as needed. All participants are required to come with their own computer and install the software and data provided at the links below. Windows XP, Linux or MacOS 10.4 or greater computers are supported. A minimum of 1 GB of RAM (2 GB if possible) and a dedicated graphic accelerator with 64mb of on board graphic memory are required.
Please complete the following items prior to the workshop.
- Software Installation Please install the newest Slicer3.4 Stable release from May 2009 appropriate to the computer you will be bringing to the workshop:
- Windows: Slicer3-3.4-2009-05-21-win32.exe
