Slicer / XND Design and Engineering Planning

Logistics

  • Confirmed date: Monday, December 21 (9-5pm), 2009
  • Location: 1249 Boylston Street, 2nd floor conference room

Goals

The purpose of this meeting is to agree upon an engineering approach and interface/interaction design for integrating a future version of XNATDesktop and FileServer into Slicer. The tool is envisioned as an OsiriX-like interface that would be raised when a user selects File->Import ->Load ->Export ->Save from Slicer. It can also operate as a standalone tool, to browse, preview, mark-up remote or local datasets -- and to launch Slicer to view a selected dataset or scene. Issues to consider:

Design

  • Review mockups, consider them against engineering practicalities
  • Agree upon first-pass presentation of functionality.
  • Collaboration plan for merging design and engineering

Engineering

  • How to leverage existing XND codes
  • Java -- Jambi?
  • PACS interaction

Deliverables

  • Report on all issues above
  • Propose a timeline to be reviewed by Dan, Steve, Ron

Schedule

  • Monday - Dec 21th
    • 9-10:30 - Review of existing XND and FileServer design
    • 10:30-12 - Design discussion: determine:
      • discuss design sketches
      • prioritize proposed functionality
    • 12-12:45 - Lunch and discussion
    • 1-3:30 - Engineering discussion: determine:
      • development tools
      • existing functionality we can leverage
      • extisting functionality that can be extended
      • new functionality that should be developed
      • how these dovetail with prioritized functionality list in design
    • 3:30-4:30 - Decide on collaborative work strategy and draft timeline

Attendance

  • We hope to keep this group small and tight for this first meeting:
  1. Mikhail Milchenko
  2. Wendy Plesniak
