Job Posting for Post-doctoral Fellow:

The Surgical Planning Lab, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School, has developed an oncology research tool to detect subtle growth in brain tumors from a pair of MR images. The research tool is currently used by the Department of Neurosurgery for monitoring patients with benign meningiomas. We are looking for a Postdoc, starting before January 2009, who is interested in expanding the capabilities of this package. Funding for this project is secured for one year.

Duties:
• Develop an algorithm for fast and accurate segmentation of tumors
• Design new methods to measure the growth of other types of tumors, such as prostate cancer and metastasis.
• Derive time sensitive metrics for analyzing multiple time points.
• Allow user to interact with the tool through 3D visualization technology.
• Disseminate software by working with user community.

Successful applicants should have or soon receive a PhD in computer science or related field. The candidate should enjoy working in an inter-disciplinary team consisting of computer scientists, radiologists, neurosurgeons, and psychiatrists. We expect the candidate to be familiar with C++, VTK, ITK, Slicer, and have experience in the biomedical field.

It is expected that the successful candidate will spend about a third of their time each between research of their own choosing, working on this project and service activities to the group.
