Developed by IMRIS, the iSPACE surgical imaging suite captures digital images through a unique, ceiling-mounted, movable MRI scanner that can be used to take high-resolution, real-time patient scans before, during and after a surgical procedure. It includes a Siemens 1.5 Tesla Symphony unit adapted by IMRIS for use in the OR. This unit provides intraoperative MR guidance for certain neurosurgical cases, such as the resection of small tumors. Unlike other intraoperative MR machines, the mobile MR lets surgeons use their usual metal surgical tools because the unit is moved into the shielded garage when surgeons are operating.

With the current scanners the most advanced MR studies can now take place, including functional MRI (fMRI) studies and proton spectroscopic studies. Post processing capabilities include standard 2-D and 3-D image analysis, dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI quantification of blood perfusion and vascular permeability, off-line spectroscopic data processing, as well as functional BOLD fMRI analyses. In addition, there is an advanced 3-D image processing laboratory available to facilitate more complex imaging studies.

iSPACE surgical imaging suite
