NA-MIC Collaboration with SparKit/OCAIRO for Adaptive Radiation Oncology
Key Personnel
- OCAIRO: Gabor Fichtinger, Terry Peters
- NA-MIC: Ron Kikinis, Tina Kapur
A cross-Ontario initiative led by Dr. Jaffray, "Ontario Consortium for Adaptive Interventions in Radiation Oncology" will work towards developing adaptive radiation therapy--a new approach involving the creation of hardware, software, imaging and database systems to enable oncologists to adapt radiation to each individual patient and their response during the course of therapy. The goal of the program is to create more effective outcomes and a better quality of life during and after radiation treatment. The program involves 22 researchers at seven different institutions, as well as private sector partners.
Cancer Care Ontario funded the operation of Applied Cancer Research Unit, which develops a common Software Platform and Adaptive Radiotherapy Kit (SparKit), which will implement tools required by OCAIRO members and other researchers across Ontario.
The goal of the collaboration between NA-MIC and SparKit/OCAIRO is to investigate and develop the use of 3D Slicer for radiation oncology.
