Getting Around in Cambridge and Boston

Boston and Cambridge are both walkable cities.

Popular Tourist Attractions

Boston Duck Tours

  • Tours leave from Museum of Science every 30-60 min
  • Museum of Science is accessible by the MBTA's Green Line: Science Park Station
  • Tour is approximately 80 minutes' duration
  • Cost is $25 pp


Whale Watch

  • Tours leave from NE Aquarium weekdays at 1:30pm
  • NE Aquarium is accessible via the MBTA's Blue Line: Aquarium Stop
  • Trip is approximately 3-4 hours' duration
  • $29/pp ($26 with college student ID)


Fenway Park Tours

  • Tours are given hourly until 3 hrs prior to a game:
  • Fenway Park is accessible via MBTA's Green Line: Kenmore Station
  • Tours would be possible:
    • Tuesday or Wednesday afternoons: Games are scheduled for 7:05pm these evenings
    • Thursday: No game scheduled at all
  • Cost is $12/pp


Freedom Trail

  • Guided tours leave daily 11:00a, noon, 1:00p from Boston Common
  • w/guide - $12pp
  • Or can do on your own - free -
  • 90 minutes' duration with guide
  • Ends at Quincy Market/Faneuil Hall Marketplace, also a fun place to visit [#quincymarket (see below)]


Charlestown/Naval Yard/USS Constitution

  • Accessible via MBTA's Green Line: North Station
  • One of the stops on the Freedom Trail
  • not far from Quincy Market/Faneuil Hall
  • Open Tues-Sun, 10am-3:50 pm, tours every 30 minutes ending at 3:30pm
  • It is a good idea to arrive at least a half-hour early to allow time to get through security, which is required for all visitors.
  • Free: voluntary donation


Museum of Fine Arts, Boston

  • Accessible via MBTA's Green Line "E" Train: Museum of Fine Arts Stop
  • Special Exhibit currently is "Cars from the Ralph Lauren Collection"
  • 465 Huntington Avenue
  • Approximately one block from the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum
  • Admission: $15/pp; $13 for students


The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum

  • Accessible via MBTA's Green Line "E" Train: Museum of Fine Arts Stop
  • 15th-century Venetian-style palace with three stories of galleries surrounding a courtyard
  • 280 Fenway, Boston, MA
  • Open Tuesday-Sunday 11 am-5 pm
  • Approximately one block from the Museum of Fine Arts
  • Adults $10 pp, College Students $5


JFK Library

  • Accessible via MBTA Red line: JFK/UMass Station; free shuttle to museum from Station to library
  • Open 9:00am - 5:00pm daily
  • Allow 90 minutes at museum
  • $10/pp; $8 for students w/ID


Sheer Madness

  • Accessible via MBTA Orange Line: Don Bosco High School exit
  • This show has been playing Boston for 25 years
  • Evening shows at 8:00pm/$38.00
  • There is a special price of $25 for the June 28 performance

Walk around Harvard Sq

  • Take the MBTA's Red Line from Kendall to Harvard (2 stops)
  • An easy walk from MIT via Massachusetts Avenue (much more interesting)
  • Many shops and informal restaurants


Walk Newbury Street

  • Just over the river in Boston: Mass Ave over the bridge, 4 blocks to a left on Newbury Street,
  • Art galleries, trendy shops, and restaurants
  • Great for people watching
  • On the Freedom Trail
  • Accessible via MBTA's Green Line: Government Center or Orange Line: Haymarket
  • Many shops and informal places to eat


Visit the North End

  • Boston's Italian Section (If you walk the Freedom Trail, you'll see parts of the North End)
  • Lots of interesting shops and places to eat
