Hi Panelists for the Building Bridges (BB) and Center Directors at the NIH Roadmap NCBC All Hands Meeting July 17-19:

Request: it would be helpful if you could provide me with suggestions and questions prior to the meeting to help prime the discussion. The panelists will be seated up front in the Lister Hill Auditorium, and the NCBC Centers staff (http://www.bisti.nih.gov/ncbc/) and other meeting attendees will be in the audience. The panelists will be asked to make a brief 3-4 minute statement to introduce themselves and the program that they represent. Following that, there will be a question and answer session moderated by Peter Lyster. The following bullet provides background and additional points. It would be good if you could come to the sessions with suggestions and questions that will help drive the discussion:
Three separate "Building Bridges" panel discussions, which are intended to address the relationship between the seven NCBCs and other government programs that have significant components of biomedical informatics and computational biology-together the NCBCs and these other programs constitute key elements of the national infrastructure. The panels will offer participants an opportunity to learn more about government initiatives from various programmatic leaders throughout the NIH and other agencies. These panels will deal with issues such as the benefit of computational programs to individual research groups as well as the broader community, the identification of leaders of change, the cultural and social changes that are need to enable networked science, the challenges of cataloguing and locating resources on the Grid, the challenges facing the development of professional scientific software, and enabling community access to long-lived scientific data archives. 1. Meeting: Center Directors and Project Team
The meeting with Center Directors and the Project Team that is scheduled for Monday afternoon will be an interactive session beginning with announcements and updates from Drs. Jeremy Berg, Donald Lindberg, and John Whitmarsh followed by an opportunity for questions and discussion of other matters. Note that, as per the previous communication, the meeting is limited to the Center PIs and the Project Team. The meeting will take place in the Lister Hill Visitor's Center.
2. Dialogue with the NIH and IC Directors
The format for the one-hour session with Dr. Zerhouni on Tuesday afternoon in the Lister Hill Auditorium will be:
-First half hour: The seven Roadmap Center Directors are asked to give a 3-4 minute statement highlighting the aspects of their Center about which they wish Dr. Zerhouni to be most aware. Because of the tight schedule, we will not have formal presentations or PowerPoint slides.
-Second half hour: Response from Dr. Zerhouni and interactive question and answer session between Dr. Zerhouni and Center Directors.
This meeting will take place in plenary session.
