Job Title: Mechanical Technician

  • Division/Department: Surgical Navigation and Robotics laboratory, Department of Radiology, Brigham and Women's Hospital
  • Reports to: Nobuhiko Hata, PhD
  • Salary Grade/Band: NIH Post-doc Salary Scale adjusted by BWH range
  • Summary

We are seeking computer scientist/engineer to develop and validate Cardiac and Percutaneous navigation software using Slicer

  • Responsibility

Job responsibilities include development of Slicer modules for cardiac and percutaneous navigation for medical robotics and devices research.

  • Qualification

The ideal candidate will have a technician degree in relevant technology with practical hands-on experience in developing medium scale software. Experience in using VTK/ITK/CMake is a must. Experience using Slicer is a major plus. A minimum of 3 years experience in programming C++ in linux environment a dynamic, hi-tech R&D lab or product development environment is required. US citizenship or permanent residence required; or immigrant visa to start working immediately.

  • Detailed qualification
    • Ability to design and develop prototype navigation software in unix and c++.
    • Ability to understand the usage of NDI or Ascension tracking device and connect linux workstation to the devices per instruction
    • Ability to program using TCP/IP socket communication protocol
    • Ability to install and setup RedHat Linux
    • Ability to document the progress of development in wiki page
    • Ability to test and validate the accuracy of navigation software using phantom
    • Ability to validate and test the system in animal and clinical studies
    • Ability to write IRB petition material is a plus
    • Ability to design the statistical analysis of the validation study is a plus


  • Initial assignment
    • Integration of 3D echocardiaography in 3D Slicer to real-time image transfer and US probe tracking using NDI sensors
    • Integration of Beta Probe to 3D Slicer with probe tracking using NDI sensors
