Harvard Catalyst Medical Informatics group Meeting Minutes February 22, 2011

We note that the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) meeting is taking place today in Florida (http://www.himssconference.org/) and our team may be thinner today due to attendance at this meeting.....

mi2b2 software update

• This week the team continued to work on resolving the Why2k problem at MGH site where C-move requests for data sets with more than 2000 images fail because the fetch fails after 2000 images if C-find has indicated that there are more than 2000 images. They followed Steve's suggestion and tried another toolkit but they still get the same error message. Decision is to table this as 'bug fix' issue and change it to a 'tolerate bug' because it is likely to be an idiosyncrasy for the MGH PACS.

• Streamlining task management (separating out into individual components the steps of ....),

• Now we are transitioning so that Bill, Chris and Dave can focus their efforts on integration of the nice new user interface with the client side software.

• Chris is now working on developing the IRB auditing capabilities for the mi2b2 STAR-D cell. We need to be able to respond to a request from each institution's Privacy Officer to report who was given access to an individual's medical imaging data. Law states we must be able to provide for each patient a list of all information about them was shared with whom when under what IRB. Question: what information exactly do we need to log? Answer: all C-finds and C-moves with date, time, permission (IRB accession number and PI). Once the draft plan is set, we will present it to each of the institution's IRB representative for final vetting.

Future Plans

Randy wondered about developing a tidy little GUI for controlling PACS access (e.g. number of threads, rate of image transfer) for the mi2b2 admin and the Department of Radiology IT team to us. All agreed this would be nice, but is much lower in priority than making the user interface GUI. Will think about this for a future grant Specific Aim to increase dissemination and usability.
