Postdoctoral research associate in image processing for Image Guided Prostate Procedures

Prostate, guidance and Computational cores

Description:

Post-Doc position in image processing, based in the Surgical Planning Laboratory at BWH to carry out the design and implementation of image processing techniques primarily for use in image guided prostate interventions (such a biopsy and brachytherapy), including registration and segmentation of prostate MR 3T images and validate them in clinical image guided therapy studies.

National Center for Image guided therapy (NCIGT):

Major duties/responsibilities

  • Develop and test image processing algorithms for medical imaging data sets
  • Carry out computer registration and segmentation techniques on multi-parametric prostate MR data sets
  • Work with statistical methods to validate the registration and segmentation algorithms
  • Participate in clinical validation studies to validate the registration and segmentation methods
  • Manage and organize prostate MR database for researchers use and dissemination
  • Participate in training, tutorial, dissemination activities of NCIGT
  • Participate collaboratively with all members of the research team
  • Provide service to Slicer engineering team for all prostate related projects
  • Publish research reports at scientific journals

Work directions/Interfaces

Report directly to the NCIGT leaders- The PI and the core leaders for the prostate, guidance and computational cores. Primary reporting core is Prostate. Some limited travel maybe required.

Qualifications

The successful candidate must have PhD in computer science or related field. The candidate is required to have practical experience in medical image processing research in graduate studies or post-graduate studies. Expertise in programming in C++ and MATLAB are required. Experience with medical image processing and visualization is critical. Excellent publication track record in medical image processing would be an asset. Programming experience with VTK, ITK, and 3D Slicer on cross platforms environment is plus. An understanding of surgical planning and navigation systems is plus. Ability and willingness to work in a multidisciplinary team is a must.
