I am a software developer with 9+ years of experience. During my PhD, I contributed and developed novel algorithms for 3D object modeling, visualization and shape statistical analysis. In the beginning of my career, these algorithms were usually prototyped in MATLAB and then translated into C++ to achieve better performance. Since my 2014-15 post-doctoral fellowship at the Brigham Womens Hospital , as a major teaching hospital of the Harvard Medical School, I have used technologies such as Angular, Node.js, and couchDB for web-based systems. These technologies are being used to develop platforms to support crowd-sourcing of medical image analysis. Client-side applications include support to manipulate, visualize and annotate medical images. Server-side applications include image-based statistics methods and also data federation tools of medical images (DICOM) as well as patient clinical and biological data as the Data Storage for Computation and Integration, the DSCI, proposed in this R01 application. Since October 2015, I have given continuity to the work that Beatriz Paniagua and Francois Budin led under Martin Styner’s senior mentoring at UNC, and in collaboration with Dr. Cevidanes at UofM. As the leading software engineer of the Dental and Craniofacial Bionetwork for Image Analysis, I have supervised the last 2 major releases and 2 minor releases of SlicerCraniomaxillofacial software, as well as the development of 3 plugins : DataBase Interactor, ShapeVariationAnalyzer and Multivariate Functional Shape Data Analysis - MFSDA. Since 2016, I have worked closely to Hongtu Zhu and his graduate biostatistics student. I am currently working with students in wrapping the Python code of the MSFDA module to make it more accessible to a broader audience, as well as developing self-contained applications of Slicer in the DSCI web-system. My interactions in weekly conferences with Drs. Paniagua and Budin at Kitware, in Chapel Hill, NC, will continue to foster our development of state-of-art computing solutions. In summary, I have the responsibility to supervise students, coordinate the software development processes and integrate their contributions into the DSCI platform. My background and training experience have prepared to contribute to the important and novel work proposed in Lucia Cevidanes’ R01 application “ Integrative Predictors of Temporomandibular Osteoarthritis”. It has been a pleasure to work with Lucia and I look forward to continuing to collaborate with the DCBIA team in this proposed project.
