Harvard Translational Imaging Consortium Meeting Minutes March 30, 2010

1. Consultations

• We received a new consultation from someone who attend our educational sessions. Valerie and Ron will take care of it.

2. Education program

• The attendance for the 1st oncology session was very low. However, the people in the audience were very motivated, it was the audience we target. Gordon W told the group that CCI found that half-day programs have the greatest fall out from registration to attendance.
• Before the next offering, Valerie will send a reminder to the people who registered for the course.
• Other way to advertise our courses:
  • people need to get the notice about the courses earlier, at least a couple of weeks in advance.
  • Jeff will contact the DFHCC clinical trial office and also announce the following oncology session on the DFHCC calendar.
• For the next offering in the fall:
  • We have to decide if we want to do 1-hour sessions over lunchtime, we can also offer whole-day program.
  • At MGH try to get a room in the main campus, not the Simches building.
  • In Longwood, offer the sessions also at BIDMC and Childrens
• New hands-on workshops offerings:
  • In May and June two additional Slicer workshops will be added (visualization and registration).
  • The new version of Slicer (tentative release in May 2010) will have a lot of interactive segmentation. Dominick Meier worked a lot on data fusion capabilities.
  • Stephan suggested to offer a workshop on Osirix with introduction, how to get access, how to do the basics, how to deindentifie data. Valerie and Wendy will look at the existing tutorials. Ron also mentioned that there are overlap between Osirix and Slicer.
  • Simon would be happy to develop a new tutorial with his softwares to be offered in the fall.

3. Year 3 budget

• Every site has some extra budget under informatics and monitoring system, at some sites it needs to be re-budget, e.g: more allocation for travel to national meetings.

4. RSNA 2010

• Valerie sent the proposal for 2 hands-on workshops and a refresher course. The documents are uploaded on the xythos website.
• The proposals for the reading room of the future must be sent by April 1st. They will be sent separately and not as a Harvard Catalyst package. A folder will be created on the xythos website to upload them.

5. Multi-center trial

• Bob had a vision to get a multi-institution trial. Being able to do a standardization within Harvard will show that multi-institutions can coordinate themselves.
• A couple of first steps would be:
  • Get a proposal with an allocation of funds
  • To think about establishing an equivalent protocol
  • Evaluate the data analysis capabilities
  • Get a multi-institutional IRB
• There are a couple of examples that we can use as model e.g. pediatric MS
