Harvard Translational Imaging Consortium Meeting Minutes July 13, 2010

In attendance:

1. Consultations

We still need a consultant with FSL routines expertise, Bruce will contact Judith Schaetcher and David Salat.
JIRA# 160 (reopen): measure the postoperative surface area of the glenoid after bony reconstruction with both pre-and post op CT scans. They tried Slicer but were not successful. Wendy will check with Ron and Nicole if the new version of Slicer is able to do open surface reconstruction. Simon also offers is help.

2. Education program

We are ready to open registration for fall session, Valerie will send an updated version of the our education page to the IT team, the Harvard Catalyst website should be updated in a week.
We need to fill the speakers list.

3. Osirix demonstration

Stephan gave the group a demo of the open-source software Osirix. He showed us how he is using the software for his daily routine. He is using it as a viewing software for image analysis. There are many other tools available that he is not using yet. Osirix can be set as a DICOM node, allowing one to connect to a PACS system or other DICOM nodes. He showed a couple of options: 3D virtual endoscopy, ADC map, image fusion of PET/CT (note that the quality depend on a previous good coregistration). There are also a couple of commercial plug-in (neuro, perfusion).
In summary:
- simple viewer
- easy to measure lesion
- good for central review, it is open-source and there is no need to put the data on the PACS system.
- con: it is MAC only, sometimes that can cause problem with IT support.
It seems to be a very valuable tool that address a lot of people's needs when they don't need a tool as sophisticated as Slicer. We will decide during one of the upcoming meeting if we want to start offering training.
