Job Title: Sr. Medical Imaging Software Engineer

Primary Function of Position The Senior Medical Imaging Software Engineer will work with a team of talented and dedicated people to develop new surgical robotic platforms to extend Intuitive’s product lines.

The successful candidate will contribute with his/her strong medical imaging background to the tight integration of pre-operative and intra-operative images with Intuitive’s surgical robotic instruments to enable robotic image guided surgery.

As a member of the team, you will be responsible for designing and delivering features to the surgical customer by integrating complex imaging algorithms into a complete surgical robot solution.

Roles and Responsibilities

This position has responsibility and authority for:

• Work on a cross-functional team to design, develop and productize new medical imaging applications embedded in Intuitive’s surgical robotic platforms

• Complete early stage research and proof of concept work to establish technical feasibility

• Develop customer requirements and product specifications for the imaging modules.

• Develop high reliability and high performance software modules for image registration, fusion, navigation, etc.

• Document according to Intuitive's development guidelines.

• Ensure that medical device designs meet product quality requirements and comply with the design control processes described in the Intuitive Surgical Quality Management System.

Competency Requirements

Competency is based on: education, training, skills and experience. In order to adequately perform the responsibilities of this position the individual must:

• Masters degree in Software, Electrical, or Computer Engineering. PhD preferred.

• Minimum 10 years industry experience in developing Medical Imaging Systems, like CT-Scan, Ultrasound, MRI, X-ray, PET. Knowledge of DICOM protocols and integration with PACS.

• Experience in image guided surgery.

• Solid background in signal processing, medical image processing (2D, 3D), pattern recognition, rendering and display applications. Well versed in image registration, segmentation, and classification techniques as well as algorithms for filtering, pattern classification, feature extraction and quantification. Knowledge of machine learning algorithms and computer vision a plus.

• Excellent C/C++ skills

• Experience with image libraries such as IPP, OpenCV , ITK/VTK, OpenGL including GPU programming.

• Experience with development under Linux or other *nix operating system

• Experience with Matlab prototyping.

• Experience working on product-focused designs.

• Demonstrated experience in and comfortable with all phases of the product development lifecycle including design, implementation, debug, verification, validation, and transfer to Manufacturing.

• Experience with designing software products in an FDA or other regulated industry or for mission critical applications is desired; comfort with concepts of design input, design output, traceability, and risk analysis.

• Hands-on engineering experience with proven ability to work well in a team environment.

• Excellent communication and documentation skills.

• A desire to deliver a quality and innovative product that provides significant patient value.
