Summary Minutes 7/12/05

  • As far as how task forces fit into this, this strategy was embraced:
    • Make sure that all task forces are represented on each of the Working Groups so that the working groups are mindful of that perspective.
    • A brief update from task forces on Tuesday morning. (Ontology is the exception since it is a full working group by itself.)
    • The working group will include task force ideas and deliverables, if applicable, in their final work plan.
    • (Bret and Joe agreed to have an off-line conversation about the status of the data sharing task force.)
  • There was a discussion about how to handle Mouse/Human Integration, Image Calibration and Statistics/Datamining between and within all testbeds, including BIRN-CC.
    • What is under consideration is a high-level, strategic track for Tuesday and Wednesday. While the work groups are focused on specific tactics and work plans, these groups would be more strategic in nature.
    • This would involve mostly PIs, who can look at areas for further exploration of between and within testbed integration. These strategy groups would have to be staggered on Tuesday and Wednesday to avoid overlap and allow the PIs to monitor working group progress. Among the possible participants;
      • Stats/data mining; Rob Williams, Greg Brown, Hal Stern, Padraic Smythe.
      • Calibration: Anders Dale, Gary Glover, Al Johnson
      • Human/Mouse Integration: Jim Fallon, Steven Potkin, Bruce Rosen, Mark Ellisman, Art Toga, Rob Williams.
      • Next step: bounce the idea off some key people, including PIs.
  • As for a guest speaker, there was a consensus that it would great to have someone come in and give a talk at the end of Tuesday. It was also agreed that it be someone from Southern California would be ideal so they would not have to travel great distances to give a one-hour talk. Names to consider: Floyd Bloom and David Dubowitz.
  • There was a lot of discussion about a draft schedule. See BIRN AHM 2005: Meeting Outline
