Post Doctoral Fellow in Medical Image Processing and Analysis

The Scientific Computing and Imaging (SCI) Institute at the University of Utah invites applications for a post doctoral researcher in the area medical image processing. This position is primarily supported by an NIH National Center for Research Resources (NCRR) for Integrative Biomedical Computing. The center combines expertise in medical image processing, modeling, simulation, and visualization. The primary responsibilities of this position are research and development in areas of medical image processing methods that are relevant to the needs of our biological and medical collaborators. These relevant areas of medical image processing include filtering and segmentation, statistical shape analysis, geometry processing, and image registration. The candidate will also work with SCI Institute researchers, software developers, and external collaborators to oversee the implementation of these new methods and algorithms into an integrated computational environment. Finally this candidate is expected to publish novel findings in internationally recognized scientific venues.

Position Requirements:

  • Ph.D. in computer science, mathematics, engineering, or physics
  • Expert knowledge in one or more areas of medical image processing
  • Advanced programming skills, especially C++
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills (English)
  • A willingness to participate in a highly diverse, multi-disciplinary environment

Salary and benefits:

The salary is competitive and negotiable. The University of Utah offers a comprehensive benefits package.

The SCI Institute:

The SCI Institute is a world-class research institute on the University of Utah campus. We are a highly dynamic, driven group of more than 100 faculty, staff and students. The overarching goals of the SCI Institute's scientific computing research are to create new techniques, tools, and systems, by which scientists may solve problems affecting various aspects of human life. We believe that to advance the state-of-the-art and create meaningful computational solutions for such complex systems, one needs to advance research in a number of areas within scientific computing, including: image processing, visualization, simulation, and modeling. Furthermore, to enable such new algorithmic and software research to have real impact outside of scientific computing and computer science, these components must be integrated with data and application specific knowledge within usable software systems. The SCI Institute presents a highly demanding work environment that can be deeply rewarding for motivated, and talented individuals. For more information see http://www.sci.utah.edu.

The University of Utah, an AA/EO employer, encourages applications from women and minorities, and provides reasonable accommodation to the known disabilities of applicants and employees.
