Harvard Translational Imaging Consortium Meeting Minutes June 23, 2009

In attendance:

  • Annick Van den Abbeele
  • Charles Guttmann
  • Jeff Yap
  • Todd Perlstein
  • Gordon Williams
  • Bob Lenkinski
  • Yong Gao

1. Update on imaging consultation requests

  • Discussion of the ongoing consultations (Dr Cypess, imaging of brown fat, Dr Rodman, imaging of brown fat, Dr Gaglia, MRI) and new consultation (Dr Pradhan, Vital project)
    • The project with Dr Cypess is finished, he is now using Slicer for his project.
    • Charles will meet with Dr Rodman regarding the use of Slicer to image brown fat.
    • Bob will contact Dr Gaglia to assess his needs about analysis/visualization of MRI T2 an T2* data.
    • Todd will contact Dr Pradhan to gather more information about the VITAL project and will get report to the group. It is a very good opportunity for the group to be involved early in a multi-center trial.

2. Education plan

  • Jeff met with the DFHCC clinical trial office and they are very interested in working with us on an education program.
  • Jeff is also a member of the clinical trial consortium of the Society for Nuclear Medicine and they expressed their interest in building a program to train the technologists on quantitative imaging because ultimately, they are the one who generate the quality of the images.
  • The format for the future nano-courses will be half-day sessions, it is easier to organize that full day sessions.
    • Several ideas have been proposed, half-day session by modality (basics of the modality and cutting edge research in the field), half-day session by disease or body part. Everybody agreed that to reach to clinical investigators who don't know yet what the modalities can offer for them, we need to go into more details than just giving an overview of the modalities.
    • Another option is to offer tutorials on modalities that were mentioned during the consultation requests.
  • Jeff will circulate a word document to fill with the kind of talk members will like to give on the various modalities.
  • Valerie and Jeff will look at the clinical curriculum offered by some national imaging organizations (e.g. ACRIN)

3. Pilot scan funding

  • Gordon will send the final version of the pilot grant program to send to Catalyst Central. Everyone please look, comment or send Gordon an e-mail stating no comments by July 1, 2009.

4. Business plan for cost sharing

  • This subject will be discussed during the next t-con.

5. Biomedical informatics

  • Yong will give a complete update to the group next week. It will include his input on the already existing Harvard X-NAT and feedback from the informatics subgroup meeting (June 29)
