Randy (as program director) and Valerie (as program coordinator) will leave the program at the end of December. Tom Brady (Director of Radiology Research at Massachusetts General Hospital ) will take over the leadership of the imaging group.

2. Education

  • The group decided not to renew the CME credit application for the course "Advanced Applications of Medical Imaging. Valerie will work both the Harvard Catalyst education team to see if they have any interest in having it transfer to them.
  • The group will not offer his usual imaging courses (advanced and basics) this fall. They will work with the new management to see what direction to follow.
  • MIT IAP: Randy put together a proposal for a non-credit offering for MIT’s Independent Activity Period 2012: Medical Imaging – seeing what makes you sick . She will be the course director and it will be sponsored by HST. She asked for suggestions for speakers. Annick suggested to contact the Koch Institute at MIT. She mentioned Tyler Jacks, the Director of the Institute, matt Vander Leiden (personalized medicine) and Sangeeta Bhatia (nanoparticles). Clare suggested Nathalie Agar from the BWH Neurosurgery Department. She does tissue characterization and tumor margin through mass spectroscopy. Charles offered to do a session on MS with Simon who would to a lecture more technical on the subject.

3. ACRIN and RSNA meetings

  • Harvard Catalyst set our budget travel for the entire group, for both meetings at $2000.
    • ACRIN: Jeff will be the only going to the meeting, as a guest speaker his expenses will be covered by ACRIN.
    • RSNA: Gordon, Clare, Annick and Randy will go but have other sources of funding. Jeff will go Monday to Friday and needs funding. Valerie will go Saturday to either Tuesday or Friday depending on whether or not she needs to give a hand for the Slicer booth. She will need funding, some part might be cover by NA-MIC. Simon is given a talk on Wednesday and will need funding.

4. FDA guidance on standards for clinical trials imaging endpoint

  • There are 4 to 5 weeks left for public comments on the draft issued by the FDA. For now the recommendations are for phase 3 trials but they may be too restrictive for use in phases 1 and 2. For example they recommend only FDA approved equipment and software which is not good for research at the academic institutions, it will only be viable for the big pharma who can spend a lot of money.

5. mi2b2 update

  • The production version is working at BWH. Training material is being developed. A no cast extension has been accepted and Partners agreed to support funding of the IT team.
